U.S. Marines MCAC Softball Athletes of the Week: Week of March 28 - April 3

Rochester, MN –

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has announced its MCAC Softball Pitchers and Players-of-the-Week for the week of March 28 - April 3.  The MCAC Softball Athletes of the Week Award is sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Central Lakes College right-handed pitcher, Victoria Wagner, threw 10.2 innings, picking up a win in her two appearances.  Wagner struck out 8 batters to earn the MCAC North Pitcher of the Week honor. Haley Murray, Itasca Community College center fielder, went 6 for 12 from the plate with a home run, a triple, and 3 RBI to pick up the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week award. 

Anoka-Ramsey Community College right-handed pitcher, Molly Gross, went 2-0 in her two starts during the week with a 0.00 ERA, giving up only 2 hits and striking out 17 to earn the MCAC South Division Pitcher of the Week honor.  Kamille Dougherty, St. Cloud Technical & Community College first baseman, earns this week's MCAC South Division Player of the Week award after going 6 for 12 from the plate with 3 doubles and 2 homeruns.

North Division 

Pitcher- and Player-of-the-Week

Victoria Wagner

Freshman / RHP

Buckman, MN

 

 

Victoria Wagner, freshman pitcher for Central Lakes College, went 1-0 in her two starts, throwing 10.2 innings and striking out 8 batters along the way.  The Buckman, MN native gave up 6 runs and compiled a 3.93 ERA during the week to be named the MCAC North Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week. 

The Raiders are 5-8 on the season, and they take the field again on Friday against Northland Community & Technical College. 

 

 

 

Haley Murray

Freshman / CF-INF

Blackduck, MN

 

 

Haley Murray, center fielder from Blackduck, MN earns the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week award. The Itasca Community College freshman went 6 for 12 from the plate (.500 batting average) with a home run, a triple, 3 RBI, and 4 runs. Murray also had no errors in the field during the week. 

The Vikings are 5-11 on the season, and they return to action on April 11 when they host Vermilion Community College.

Zakia Herron (OF, Central Lakes College): 8 for 10 at the plate with a double, an RBI, and 4 runs. 

Amelia Fritz (SS, Mesabi Range College): 3 for 11 with a double, a HR, 2 RBI, 3 runs, and 2 stolen bases.

 

 

South Division 

Pitcher- and Player-of-the-Week

 

Molly Gross

Freshman / RHP

Columbia Heights, MN

 

 

Molly Gross earns this week's MCAC South Pitcher of the Week honor after picking up two wins in her 10 innings of scoreless pitching.  The Anoka-Ramsey Community College freshman from Columbia Heights, MN struck out 17, giving up only two hits and walking three batters, while compiling a 0.00 ERA.  Gross is currently on a 27 inning scoreless streak with 4 consecutive shutouts and a 5-0 record in her last 5 starts.

The Golden Rams are now 12-9 on the season, and take the field again on Friday at Minnesota West Community & Technical College.

Kamille Dougherty

Freshman / 1B

Sartell, MN

 

 

Kamille Dougherty, freshman first baseman for St. Cloud Community & Technical College, hit .500 from the plate during the week, going 6 for 12 with three doubles and 2 homeruns. The Sartell, MN product had 9 RBI and 4 runs as well.  In the field, Dougherty was errorless with her 17 putouts and 1 assist, and she earns the MCAC South Player-of-the-Week award. 

The Cyclones are 15-1 on the year, and they take the field again on Saturday at Minnesota West Community & Technical College.            

 

Other Notable Performers

Lyla Galli (3B, ARCC): 7 for 13 with a double and a home run, 7 RBI, and 4 runs.

Molly Carnell (Pitcher, SCTCC): 2-0 in 2 appearances, 9 IP, 3 ER, 8 hits, 6 K; also hit .400 in 10 at bats.
