U.S. Marines MCAC Softball Athletes of the Week: Week of April 4 - 10

Rochester, MN –

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has announced its MCAC Softball Pitchers and Players-of-the-Week for the week of April 4 - April 10.  The MCAC Softball Athletes of the Week Award is sponsored by the U.S. Marines

For the second straight week, Victoria Wagner, Central Lakes College pitcher, is named the MCAC North Pitcher of the Week. Wagner went 2-0 during the week, giving up 1 earned over 10 innings and striking out 9.  Julia Knapper, Mesabi Range College second baseman, went 4 for 7 from the plate with two home runs, 2 doubles, and 6 RBI to pick up the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week award. 

In unique fashion, Rochester Community and Technical College pitcher, Bella Mehrkens, earns both the MCAC South Division Pitcher of the Week and Player of the Week award after going 3-0 in her 5 appearances last week. Mehrkens struck out 36 and gave up only 4 hits over 17.66 innings, while also hitting .736 with 16 RBI and two homeruns.

North Division 

Pitcher- and Player-of-the-Week

 

Victoria Wagner

Freshman / RHP

Buckman, MN

 

 

Central Lakes College right-handed pitcher, Victoria Wagner, picked up the MCAC North Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week award for the second straight week. The Buckman, MN product went 2-0 in her two starts, throwing 10 innings and giving up only one earned run while striking out 9. She ended the week with a 0.70 earned run average.  

The Raiders are 9-8 overall and 4-0 in the MCAC North, and they take the field again on Wednesday when they host Hibbing Community College. 

 

 

 

 

Julia Knapper

Sophomore / 2B

Mt. Iron, MN

 

 

Julia Knapper, the Mesabi Range College second baseman, earns the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week award. The sophomore from Mt. Iron, MN was 4 for 7 from the plate, hitting .571 with two doubles and two homeruns.  She also had 6 RBI and scored 4 runs. 

The Norse are 3-9 on the season and 2-0 in the MCAC North, and they return to action on Wednesday at Vermilion Community College.                      

 

Other Notable Performers

Kasey Stegman (SS, Northland CTC): 2 for 4 at the plate, .550 BA, scored 2 runs. 

Sarah Kossan (C/LF, Central Lakes College): 7 for 11 with a double, two triples, a HR, 5 RBI, and 6 runs.

 

 

South Division 

Pitcher- and Player-of-the-Week

 

Bella Mehrkens

Freshman / RHP

Zumbro Falls, MN

 

 

Bella Mehrkens, Rochester Community and Technical College pitcher, earns this week's MCAC South Pitcher and Player of the Week honors after picking up three wins in her 17.66 innings of 4-hit pitching.  The freshman from Zumbro Falls, MN struck out 36, giving up only four hits and five earned runs, while compiling a 1.98 ERA.

Mehrkens also went 14 for 19 from the plate, hitting .736 with three doubles, a triple, and two homeruns.  She had 16 RBI and scored 8 runs.

The Yellowjackets  are now 15-13 on the season and 6-0 in the MCAC South.  They take the field again on Tuesday when they host Minnesota West Community & Technical College.
