U.S. Marines MCAC Softball Athletes of the Week: Week of April 11 - 17

Rochester, MN –

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has announced its MCAC Softball Pitchers and Players-of-the-Week for the week of April 11 - 17.  The MCAC Softball Athletes of the Week Award is sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Itasca Community College swept the awards in the MCAC North Division as pitcher Taylor Shepard earned the pitcher-of-the-week award, and catcher/short stop Abby Gustason picked up the player-of-the-week honor. Shepard went 2-0 for the week, pitching 10 innings and giving up only 4 runs while striking out 15.  Gustason racked up 14 hits on 15 at bats (.933), hitting 5 home runs and driving in 19 runs.

St. Cloud Technical and Community College players earned both of the MCAC South Division awards with Molly Carnell being named pitcher-of-the-week and Rainna Stangle earning the player-of-the-week honor.  Carnell had 17 innings of work over three games, striking out 12 and putting together a low 2.88 ERA for the week.  Stangle hit .765 on the week in her 17 at bats, driving in 13 runs and going yard three times.

North Division 

Pitcher- and Player-of-the-Week

Taylor Shepard

Sophomore / Pitcher

Remer, MN

 

 

Taylor Shepard, sophomore pitcher for Itasca Community College, went 2-0 in her two starts, throwing 10 innings and striking out 15 batters along the way.  The Remer, MN native gave up only 4 runs and compiled a 2.80 ERA during the week to be named the MCAC North Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week. 

The Vikings are 9-11 overall and 4-0 in the MCAC North, and they are scheduled to take the field again on Sunday at Central Lakes College. 

 

 

 

Abby Gustason

Freshman / C - SS

Coleraine, MN

 

 

Itasca Community College catcher/short stop from Coleraine, MN, Abby Gustason, earns the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week award. The freshman went 14 for 15 from the plate (.933 batting average) with 5 home runs, 4 doubles, 19 RBI, and 12 runs. 

The Vikings are 9-11 on the season and 4-0 in the MCAC North.  They return to action on Sunday at Central Lakes College.

Presley Frost (RHP, Rainy River CC): went 3-2 in 6 appearances, 29.1 IP, 12 ER, 27 R, 33 H, 26 K, 2.86 ERA.

Presley Frost (RHP, Rainy River CC): 11 for 23, .478 BA, 2 HR, 12 RBI, and 6 runs.

Riley Roden (CF, Vermilion CC): 11 for 18, .611 BA, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 1 HR, 9 RBI, 9 runs, 2 stolen bases.

Justine Pratcshler (C, Northland CTC): 7 for 12, .583 BA, 5 doubles, 2 RBI, 6 runs, and a stolen base.

 

 

South Division 

Pitcher- and Player-of-the-Week

 

Molly Carnell

Freshman / RHP - 3B

Comfrey, MN

 

 

Molly Carnell has been named this week's MCAC South Pitcher of the Week after throwing three complete games, earning wins for all three. The St. Cloud Technical and Community College freshman from Comfrey, MN struck out 12, giving up 8 hits and 7 earned runs, while walking only two batters.  Carnell also hit .476 with 3 doubles, a home run, and 13 RBI for the week.

The Cyclones are now 20-2 on the season and 5-1 in the MCAC South.  They take the field again on Tuesday at Ridgewater College.

Rainna Stangle

Freshman / C - 3B

Sartell, MN

 

 

Rainna Stangle, freshman catcher/3B for St. Cloud Community & Technical College, hit .765 from the plate during the week, going 13 for 17 with three doubles and 3 home runs. Stangle, from Sartell, MN, also had 13 RBI and 14 runs as well, while being walked 8 times.  In the field, Stangle was errorless with her 17 putouts and 7 assists, and she earns the MCAC South Player-of-the-Week award. 

The Cyclones are 5-1 in the MCAC South and 20-2 on the year.  They take the field again on Tuesday at Ridgewater College.

Marissa Kerry (C, Anoka-Ramsey CC): 8 for 14, .571 BA, 5 RBI, and 3 runs.
