U.S. Marines MCAC Baseball Athletes of the Week: Week of April 11 - 17

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its baseball athlete-of-the-week awards for the week of April 11 -17.  The baseball athlete-of-the-week awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Itasca Community College swept this weeks's MCAC North awards.  Avery Liestman, freshman pitcher for the Vikings, earns the MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week, tossing 4 innings and giving up 4 earned runs on 8 hits.  Daniel Wensloff, sophomore outfielder, hit .571 with a double and scored 2 runs to earn the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week honor.

Central Lakes College pitcher, Kyle Strecker, is the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week.  Strecker threw 3.1 innings of relief work, throwing a one-hitter in his time on the mound while not giving up a run to earn the win. Tyler Flis, catcher for Ridgewater College, went 4 for 5 from the plate with a double and a home run to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week.

Earning the MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week award is Max Schumacher, freshman pitcher for Riverland Community College. Schumacher threw 7 innings of one run ball, picking up a win, and striking out 8.  Century College infielder, Brayden Bengston, picks up the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week award. Going 4 for 9 with a .444 batting average, Bengston hit 4 home runs on his 4 hits while driving in 7.

Avery Liestman

Litchfield, MN

 

 

 

Itasca Community College freshman pitcher, Avery Liestman, threw 4 innings during the week, giving up 4 earned runs. The Litchfield, MN native walked only 3 batters while giving up 8 hits. Liestman is this week's MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week. 

The Vikings are 8-14 on the season and are scheduled to play Mesabi Range College on Thursday. 

 

Daniel Wensloff

Roseau, MN

 

 

 

Daniel Wensloff has been named the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week. The sophomore outfielder for Itasca Community College went 4 for 7 (.571) from the plate, with a double. The Roseau, MN product scored twice and drove in 2 runs while also stealing a base. 

Itasca is now 8-14 on the season, and they return to action on Thursday to host Mesabi Range College.

Kyle Strecker

Onamia, MN

 

 

 

Kyle Strecker, freshman pitcher at Central Lakes College, went 1-0 in his one appearance during the week, giving up only one hit in 3.1 innings. The Onamia, MN pitcher earns the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  Strecker struck out 5 and did not walk a batter in his relief appearance.  Entering the game in the 4th inning with bases loaded, Strecker struck out the one hitter he faced to end the inning and then went on to pitch a one-hit game the rest of the way. 

The Raiders are 15-8 on the season and 4-0 in MCAC Central play. They take the field again on Tuesday hosting Dakota County Technical College. 

 

Tyler Flis

Bloomington, MN

 

 

 

Ridgewater College catcher, Tyler Flis, went 4 for 5 from the plate for a .800 batting average and drove in 1 run to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week honor.  The freshman from Bloomington, MN hit a double and a home run, while scoring one run and walking once.

The Warriors are 4-10 overall and 2-2 in MCAC Central action.  They next play again on Wednesday at Gustavus Adolphus College.

Gunnar Wicklund (C, Central Lakes College): 6 for 9, .667 BA, 2 doubles, 1 HR, 2 RBI, and 1 run.

Tyler Traphagen (OF, Ridgewater College): 3 for 7, .428 BA, 1 double, 2 HR, 3 RBI, and 2 runs. 

Brad Bickmann (3B, Ridgewater College): 2 for 6, .333 avg., 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 runs, and 2 walks.

Maxwell Schumacher

Danville, IN

 

 

 

Maxwell Schumacher, pitcher for Riverland Community College, earns this week's MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  The freshman from Danville, IN went 1-0 in his one start, throwing 7 innings and giving up only 1 earned run and 9 hits while striking out 8. Schumacher put together a 1.29 ERA for the week.

The Blue Devils are 15-13 on the season and 7-1 in the MCAC South. They return to the field on Tuesday when they host Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

 

Brayden Bengston

Wayzota, MN

 

 

Century College infielder, Brayden Bengston, hit .444 going 4 for 9 at the plate. What made his stats impressive was that he went yard on every hit.  The freshman from Wayzota, MN earns the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week honor.  In addition to his 4 home runs, Bengston drove in 7 RBI and scored 5 runs. 

The Wood Ducks are 13-13 overall and 2-2 in the MCAC South.  They play again on Tuesday when they host Minnesota Post Grads.

Jeremy Vega (1B, Riverland Community College): 9 for 16, .562 BA, 1 double, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 5 runs, and 2 walks.
