U. S. Marines MCAC Softball Athletes of the Week: Week of April 18 - 24

Rochester, MN –

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has announced its MCAC Softball Pitchers and Players-of-the-Week for the week of April 18 - 24.  The MCAC Softball Athletes of the Week Award is sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Central Lakes College pitcher, Addie Sanford, earns the week's MCAC North Division Pitcher-of-the-Week award after throwing a complete game one-hitter in her lone appearance. Kasey Stegman, Northland Community and Technical College shortstop is the MCAC North Division Player-of-the-Week. Stegman went 7 for 12 from the plate, with a grand slam and 10 RBI for the week.

Going 2-0 and giving up only three earned runs over her 3 appearances, Bella Mehrkens, Rochester Community and Technical College pitcher, earns the MCAC South Division Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.   Brooke Edlund went 15 for 26 at the plate for Ridgewater College and hit for the cycle while driving in 14 runs, and she earns this week's MCAC South Division Player-of-the-Week award.

North Division 

Pitcher- and Player-of-the-Week

Addie Sanford

Freshman / Pitcher

Aitkin, MN

 

 

Addie Sanford, freshman pitcher for Central Lakes College, went 1-0 in her lone start, throwing 6 innings of one-hit ball and striking out 6 batters along the way.  The Aitkin, MN product gave up only 2 runs and compiled a 1.14 ERA during the week to be named the MCAC North Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week. 

The Raiders are 13-9 overall and 8-1 in the MCAC North, and they are scheduled to take the field again on Wednesday at Northland Community & Technical College. 

 

 

 

Kasey Stegman

Freshman / SS

Drayton, ND

 

 

Northland Community and Technical College shortstop from Drayton, ND, Kasey Stegman, earns the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week award. The freshman hit .583, going 7 for 12 from the plate, with a grand slam home run (first of her college career), a double, two triples, 10 RBI, and 9 runs. She also added two stolen bases to her stat line and was hit by a pitch. 

The Pioneers are 4-6 on the season and 4-6 in the MCAC North.  They return to action on Wednesday when they host Central Lakes College.

Amelia Fritz (SS, Mesabi Range College): 8 for 13, .615 BA, 2 doubles, a triple, a HR, 7 RBI, 7 runs, 6 SB

Brook Corrigan (IF/OF, Central Lakes College): 10 for 18, 1 double, 1 triple, 1 HR, 7 RBI, and 1 stolen base.

 

 

South Division 

Pitcher- and Player-of-the-Week

 

Bella Mehrkens

Freshman / RHP

Zumbro Falls, MN

 

 

Bella Mehrkens has been named this week's MCAC South Pitcher of the Week, her second award of the season, after going 2-0 in her 3 appearances during the week. The Rochester Community and Technical College freshman from Zumbro Falls, MN struck out 16, giving up only 4 hits and 3 earned runs, while walking two batters over 11 innings.  She threw a no-hitter in her outing against Minnesota State - Fergus Falls.  Mehrkens also hit .692 with a triple and a home run.

The Yellowjackets are 21-17 on the season and 10-4 in the MCAC South.  They take the field again on Tuesday when they host Riverland Community College.

Brooke Edlund

Freshman / OF - C

Cold Spring, MN

 

 

Brooke Edlund, freshman outfielder and catcher for Ridgewater College, hit .577 from the plate during the week, going 15 for 26 with five doubles, a triple, and 2 home runs. Edlund, from Cold Spring, MN, also had 14 RBI and 12 runs, while stealing two bases and being walked 3 times.  She hit for the cycle on Sunday with a two-run homer, double, triple, single in her at bats. With her outstanding performance at the plate, she earns the MCAC South Player-of-the-Week award. 

Ridgewater is now 2-8 in the MCAC South and 2-11 on the year.  They take the field again on Tuesday at Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

Sunny Strait (1B/3B, Anoka-Ramsey CC): 7 for 11, .636 BA, 2 doubles, 2 HR, 14 RBI, and 2 walks.
