U.S. Marines MCAC Baseball Athletes of the Week: Week of April 18 - 24

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its baseball athlete-of-the-week awards for the week of April 18 -24.  The baseball athlete-of-the-week awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Mesabi Range College left-handed pitcher, Brandon Lind, has been named the MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week, throwing 7 innings of one run ball and striking out 14.  John Michael Gonzalez Jr., freshman outfielder for Rainy River Community College, hit .700 with a double and a home run to earn the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week honor.

Reece Schwirtz, Ridgewater College right-handed pitcher, is the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week.  Schwirtz threw 4 innings, giving up only 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 4 in the win.  Eli Roberts, outfielder for Central Lakes College, went 8 for 11 from the plate with two home runs and 7 RBI to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week.

Earning the MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week honor is Century College right-handed pitcher, Dylan Immel. Immel threw 7 innings of shutout ball, scattering 5 hits, and striking out 9 to pick up a win in his one start.   Immel's teammate and Century outfielder, Chris Jacobs, picks up the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week award. Going 11 for 19 with a .579 batting average, Jacobs hit a double and 4 home runs while driving in 12.

Brandon Lind

Iron, MN

 

 

 

Mesabi Range College freshman pitcher, Brandon Lind, went 1-0 in his lone appearance and threw 7 innings during the week, giving up only 1 earned run while striking out 14. The Iron, MN native scattered 6 hits and walked only 3 batters, compiling a weekly ERA of 1.29. Lind is this week's MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week. 

The Norse are 8-16 on the season and 2-0 in the MCAC North.  They are scheduled to host Rainy River Community College on Wednesday.

 

John Michael Gonzalez Jr.

Fr. / OF - C

Tucson, AZ

 

 

 

John Michael Gonzalez Jr. has been named the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week. The freshman outfielder/catcher for Rainy River Community College went 7 for 10 (.700) from the plate, with a double and a home run. The Tucson, AZ product scored five times and drove in 3 runs while also stealing a base and walking three times. 

Rainy River is now 8-15 on the season and 1-1 in conference play, and they return to action on Wednesday taking on Mesabi Range College.

Ryan Vondracek (P, Hibbing CC): 1-0 in 1 appearance, 7 IP, 2 ER, 4 runs, 11 hits, 14 strikeouts, 3 walks, and 2.57 weekly ERA. 

Nick Peters (SS/3B, Mesabi Range College): 7 for 15, .467 BA, 3 doubles, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 4 runs, and 2 walks.

Reece Schwirtz

Plato, MN

 

 

 

Reece Schwirtz, right-handed pitcher at Ridgewater College, went 1-0 in his one appearance during the week, giving up only two hits in 4 innings. The Plato, MN freshman earns the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  Schwirtz struck out 4 and did not walk a batter in his win. He gave up only 1 run and put together a 2.25 ERA for the week. 

Ridgewater is 6-12 on the season and 4-4 in MCAC Central play. They take the field again on Wednesday in Spicer, MN against Central Lakes College. 

 

Eli Roberts

Brainerd, MN

 

 

 

Central Lakes College outfielder, Eli Roberts, went 8 for 11 from the plate for a .727 batting average and drove in 7 runs to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week honor.  The freshman from Brainerd, MN hit two home runs, while scoring eight runs, walking three times, and stealing 4 bases.

The Raiders are 18-9 overall and 5-1 in MCAC Central action.  They next play again on Wednesday in Spicer, MN against Ridgewater College.

Brad Bickmann (3B, Ridgewater College): 7 for 14, .500 avg., 1 double, 1 RBI, 4 runs, and a stolen base. 

Bryce Norby (RHP/OF, Anoka-Ramsey CC): 13 IP, 3 ER, 4 R, 11 H, 11 K, 5 BB, and 7-15 (.467), 1 double, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 3 R, 1 SB.

Dylan Immel, right-handed pitcher for Century College, earns this week's MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  The freshman from Lomira, WI went 1-0 in his one start and appeared in two games, throwing 7 innings without giving up a run.  Immel struck out 9 and scattered 5 hits while walking two, compiling a 0.00 ERA for the week.

The Wood Ducks are 19-13 on the season and 6-2 in the MCAC South. They return to the field on Thursday at Augsburg University. 

 

Chris Jacobs

Wayzata, MN

 

 

Century College outfielder, Chris Jacobs, went 11 for 19 from the plate, hitting .579 with a double and 4 home runs. The freshman from Wayzata, MN earns the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week honor.  Jacobs scored 10 runs and drove in 12.  He was also walked 3 times. 

The Wood Ducks are 19-13 overall and 6-2 in the MCAC South.  They play again on Thursday when they travel to Augsburg University.
