U.S. Marines MCAC Baseball Athletes of the Week: Week of April 25 - May 1

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its baseball athlete-of-the-week awards for the week of April 25 - May 1.  The baseball athlete-of-the-week awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Rainy River Community College right-handed pitcher, Elyjah Wahlstrom, has been named the MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week, throwing 6-2/3 innings of one run ball, giving up 3 hits, and striking out 3.  Cade Marquardt, sophomore catcher/outfielder Itasca Community College, hit .625 with two doubles and 4 RBI to earn the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week honor.

Derin Gaudette, right-handed pitcher for Central Lakes College, is the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week.  Gaudette threw a complete game, giving up only 1 earned run on 5 hits and striking out 7 in the win.  Tyler Flis, catcher for Ridgewater College, went 11 for 21 from the plate with two home runs, 5 doubles, and 6 RBI to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week.

The MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week is Riverland Community College's right-handed pitcher, Jake Tasker. Tasker threw 5 innings of shutout ball, scattering 4 hits, striking out 3, and compiling a o.oo weekly ERA in his win.  Zebastian Bolduc, Rochester Community and Technical College's second baseman, picks up the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week award. Going 12 for 21 with a .571 batting average, Bolduc hit three doubles and 2 home runs while driving in 15 and stealing 3 bases.

Elyjah Wahlstrom

Pengilly, MN

 

 

 

Rainy River Community College sophomore pitcher, Elyjah Wahlstrom, went 1-0 last week, throwing 6-2/3 innings and giving up only 1 earned run while striking out 3. The Pengilly, MN native scattered 3 hits and walked 5, compiling a weekly ERA of 1.05. Wahlstrom is this week's MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week. 

The Voyageurs are 10-16 on the season and 3-2 in the MCAC North.  They are scheduled to play Vermilion Community College on Wednesday.

 

Cade Marquardt

Litchfield, MN

 

 

 

Cade Marquardt has been named the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week. The sophomore catcher/outfielder for Itasca Community College went 5 for 8 (.625) from the plate, with two doubles and 4 RBI during the week. The Litchfield, MN product scored twice, and defensively was perfect throwing out runners attempting to steal.  

Itasca is now 12-18 on the season and 3-1 in conference play, and they return to action on Wednesday taking on Mesabi Range College.

Alex McBride (P, Itasca CC): 1-0 in 1 appearance, 5 IP, 3 ER, 3 runs, 6 hits, 1 walk, and 5.4 weekly ERA. 

Waldemar Martinez (SS, Hibbing Community College): 4 for 6, .666 BA, 1 double, 2 RBI, 3 runs, and 1 stolen base.

Christian Dicochea (OF/C/RHP, Rainy River CC): 4 for 8, .500 BA, 2 RBI, 2 runs, and a walk.

Alex Fijal (RHP, Mesabi Range College): 1-0 in 1 appearance, 4 IP, 2 runs, 4 hits, 1 strikeout, and 1 walk.

Jackson Bode (C/SS, Mesabi Range College): 3 for 4, 1 double, 1 RBI, and 2 runs.

Derin Gaudette

New York Mills, MN

 

 

 

Derin Gaudette, right-handed pitcher at Central Lakes College, went 1-0 in his one appearance during the week, giving up only one earned run in his 7 innings. The New York Mills, MN freshman earns the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  Gaudette struck out 7 and walked 4, while giving up only 5 hits in his win. He put together a 1.29 ERA for the week. 

The Raiders are 21-10 on the season and 8-2 in MCAC Central play. They take the field again on Tuesday at Century College. 

 

Tyler Flis

Bloomington, MN

 

 

 

Ridgewater College catcher, Tyler Flis, went 11 for 21 from the plate for a .524 batting average and drove in 6 runs to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week honor.  The freshman from Bloomington, MN hit two home runs and 5 doubles, while scoring two runs and walking once.

The Warriors are 9-15 overall and 5-7 in MCAC Central action.  They next play again on Wednesday when they host Riverland Community College.

Jake Tasker, right-handed pitcher for Riverland Community College, earns this week's MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  The freshman from Geneva, MN went 1-0 in his one start, throwing 5 innings without giving up a run.  Tasker struck out 3 and scattered 4 hits while walking one, compiling a 0.00 ERA for the week.

The Blue Devils are 18-20 on the season and 8-5 in the MCAC South. They return to the field on Wednesday at Ridgewater College. 

 

Zebastian Bolduc

Tampa, FL

 

 

Rochester Community and Technical College second baseman, Zebastian Bolduc, went 12 for 21 from the plate, hitting .571 with 3 doubles and 2 home runs. The freshman from Tampa, FL earns the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week honor.  Bolduc scored 11 runs and drove in 15.  He was also walked once and stole 3 bases. 

The Yellowjackets are 21-11 overall and 12-2 in the MCAC South.  They play again on Tuesday at Western Technical College.
