MCAC Football Athletes of the Week

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its weekly football athletes of the week awards for the week of August 22 - 28.  

North Dakota State College of Science wide receiver Marselio Mendez claims an Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor with his 117 receiving yards on 5 catches, an average of 23.4 yards per catch. He also caught 2 touchdown passes and had a rush for 2 yards in the NDSCS victory.  LaQwan Sims, Rochester Community & Technical College running back, earned the other Offensive Player-of-the-Week award after rushing for 101 yards on 9 carries, averaging 11.2 yards per carry, and scoring a touchdown. 

JayVarion Peters-Johnson, Minnesota West Community & Technical College linebacker, had 13 tackles, 2.5 for losses of 7.7 yards, and a forced fumble to earn a Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor.  Chris Heidl, linebacker for Minnesota State Community & Technical College, earned the other Defensive Player-of-the-Week award by picking up 6 total tackles with one for a loss and a forced fumble.

Carsen McKnight picks up the week's Special Teams Player-of-the-Week award.  The Minnesota State Community & Technical College kicker went 4 for 5 on his extra point tries and kicked a 47-yard field goal on his one attempt in the Spartan's 37-0 win over Dakota State University JV on Saturday. 

Each week throughout the 2022 season, two offensive, two defensive, and a special teams athlete will be named players-of-the-week, based on nominations submitted by MCAC member football programs.
