MCAC Football Athletes of the Week: Week of September 12 - 18

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its weekly football athletes of the week awards for the week of September 12 - 18.  

Rochester Community & Technical College offensive tackle, Gavin Layton, earned an Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor with his 6 pancake blocks in a win over #5 ranked Minnesota North - Mesabi Range. Layton also did not give up a sack in 54 offensive plays and helped his team rush for 84 yards and 271 total offensive yards, an average of 5.0 yards per play.  Rondarius Gregory, Minnesota State Community & Technical College running back, earned the other Offensive Player-of-the-Week award after rushing for 121 yards on 10 carries, averaging 12.1 yards per carry, and scoring 2 touchdowns.  He also had 3 catches for 52 yards and a touchdown in his team's win over Minnesota North - Vermilion. 

JayVarion Peters-Johnson, Minnesota West Community & Technical College middle linebacker, had 12 tackles, 2.5 of them for a loss of 4.5 yards, and 1.5 sacks to earn a Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor.  Andrew Eriks, linebacker for Rochester Community & Technical College, earned the other Defensive Player-of-the-Week award with his 7 tackles and 3.5 sacks, with 4 tackles for a loss.

Jaylon Jackson picks up the week's Special Teams Player-of-the-Week award.  The Rochester Community & Technical College kick returner/wide receiver returned 5 kicks for a total of 168 yards, averaging 33.6 yards per return.  He also had an 88-yard return for a touchdown in the Yellowjackets win. 

Each week throughout the 2022 season, two offensive, two defensive, and a special teams athlete will be named players-of-the-week, based on nominations submitted by MCAC member football programs.
