All-MCAC Soccer Teams Announced; Cordes and Bastin Named Players of the Year

Rochester, MN –

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) office has announced the All-MCAC Soccer Teams for the 2023 season in both men's and women's soccer.

The All-MCAC Men's Soccer Team is selected by the men's soccer head coaches in the MCAC, while the All-MCAC Women's Soccer Team is chosen by the women's soccer head coaches in the MCAC. Each team consists of 15 members with at least 4 midfielders, 4 defenders, no more than 6 forwards, and at least one but not more than two goalkeepers. 

Anton Cordes, forward for Minnesota West Community and Technical College, has been selected as the MCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year; and Jordan Balster, head coach of Minnesota West Community and Technical College, has been named the MCAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year. Cordes led the MCAC in goals during the 2023 season, tallying 13 goals in 10 games, with four of them being game-winners. He also had two assists on the season and was instrumental in the Blue Jays winning the MCAC Men's Soccer Championship this season. Balster led his team to the conference title and went 8-4-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the MCAC.

Cathrine Bastin, attacking midfielder for Lake Superior College, was named the MCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Year; and Ben Harrison, head coach of Anoka-Ramsey Community College, has been selected as the MCAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year. Bastin led her Icehawks team to a 0-6-2 season, 0-4-2 in MCAC play. Bastin ended her season in the Region 13 semifinals after losing to Rochester Community and Technical College. Harrison, in his first season as the Golden Rams head coach, compiled a 2-4-2 overall record and 2-3-1 in the MCAC. The Golden Rams advanced to the Region 13 Championship Game, where they sustained a 4-0 loss to Rochester Community and Technical College. Harrison's team did qualify for the Midwest District Tournament as the Region 13 runner-up.
