MCAC Winter Sports Athletes of the Week: Week of January 1-7

Rochester, MN - 

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports weekly awards for the week of January 1-7.

Kalli Papenfuss, a guard for Central Lakes College, earned this week's MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award, shooting 10 for 13 from the field and scoring 21 points in the Raiders' first North Division win of the new year, a 78-24 victory over MNC-Mesabi Range. Papenfuss grabbed 12 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 steals in the win.  Minnesota North College - Vermilion guard Quyavant Douglas scored 35 points on 13 for 18 shooting from the field and going 5 for 6 from behind the arc to secure a North Division win for the Ironhawks and this week's MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award, his third this season. Douglas added 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals in 34 minutes of action. 

Madison Foss, a strong forward for Minnesota State Community and Technical College, shot 65% from the field and 75% from 3-point range, scoring 33 points while also grabbing 21 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block in 70 minutes of action to earn the week's MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week. Foss averaged a double-double in the Spartans' two wins over NJCAA-ranked teams, #2 Minnesota West and #4 Riverland. Savier McCall, forward for Riverland Community College, earned this week's MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award, his second of the season. McCall scored 40 points, shooting nearly 60% from the field, and he picked up 15 rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block in the Blue Devils' two South Division road wins.  McCall's dominating performance in wins over Rochester and Minnesota State - Fergus Falls helped Riverland move up to #11 in the latest NJCAA DIII Men's Basketball poll. 

In a notable week of action for Olivia Hayenga, the sophomore guard from Minnesota West Community and Technical College scored the 1,000th point of her college career and also became the all-time leader in steals for the Lady Jays in a win over #5 Anoka-Ramsey Community College and a loss to Minnesota State - Fergus Falls.
