MCAC Winter Sports Athletes of the Week: Week of January 8-14

Rochester, MN - 

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports weekly awards for the week of January 8-14.

Destiny Piekarski, forward for Minnesota North College - Rainy River, added two more double-doubles to her season total of 10, averaging 27.5 points per game and 19 rebounds per game this week to earn her third MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award of the season. Piekarski scored 55 points and grabbed 38 rebounds, 10 assists, six steals, and three blocks in two North Division games during the week. Minnesota North College - Vermilion guard Quyavant Douglas hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to lead his Ironhawks to a win over Minnesota North College - Itasca on Saturday and earn the MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Douglas scored 42 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and had four steals in his 56 minutes of court action over two games during the week. 

Hattie DeVries, forward for Minnesota West Community and Technical College, shot 66.7% from the field, scoring 48 points and grabbing 15 rebounds to earn the week's MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week. DeVries had 10 assists, 2 steals, and a block in the Lady Jays' two decisive South Division wins during the week. Savier McCall, forward for Riverland Community College, earned this week's MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award. McCall scored 57 points and picked up 19 rebounds in the Blue Devils' two South Division wins during the week. He also added five assists, four steals, and four blocks while shooting 74.2% from the field and 63.6% from 3-point range.
