MCAC WInter Sports Athletes of the Week: Week of January 15-21

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports weekly awards for the week of January 15-21.

Neveah Hughes, forward for Central Lakes College, earned this week's MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Hughes scored 38 points, grabbed 20 rebounds, and had 11 assists and 5 steals to help her Raiders' team pick up two more MCAC North Division wins this week.  Minnesota North College - Mesabi Range center Amari George scored 42 points on 19 for 29 shooting from the field, and he also grabbed 24 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 6 blocks to earn this week's MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. 

Minnesota West Community and Technical College guard Olivia Hayenga became the Lady Jays' all-time leading scorer after scoring 45 points in her two games last week. Hayenga shot 50% from the field and 83.3% from the free throw line while also snatching 21 rebounds, 5 steals, 8 blocks, and 8 assists in 59 minutes of action to earn the week's MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week. DeWayne Thompson, guard for Riverland Community College, earned this week's MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award. Thompson scored 39 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, had 9 assists, and stole a ball, to help the Blue Devils extend their current winning streak to 20 consecutive games.
