The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports weekly awards for the week of January 22-28.
Destiny Piekarski, forward for Minnesota North College - Rainy River, statted two more double-doubles to bring her season total to 13 and earn her the MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Piekarski scored 65 points and grabbed 40 rebounds in the Voyageurs' two wins during the week while adding 8 assists, 13 steals, and 5 blocks in her 76 minutes of court time. Central Lakes College shooting guard, Quamar Gresham, scored 58 points in the Raiders' two wins, averaging 29 points per game on 42.5% shooting from the field and 43.5% shooting from behind the 3-point arc. Gresham grabbed 10 rebounds, 5 steals, and had 5 assists in his 67 minutes of action to earn the MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award.
Macaya Copeland, point guard for Rochester Community and Technical College, shot 60% from the field, scoring 24 points and grabbing 5 rebounds, 4 steals, a block, and an assist to earn the week's MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week honor. Copeland also shot 75% from the three-point arc, leading her Yellowjackets to a road win over #3 ranked Anoka-Ramsey Community College. Obinna Izoura, shooting guard for Rochester Community and Technical College, earned this week's MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award after scoring 20 points in only 24 minutes. In the Yellowjackets' 18-point win over Anoka-Ramsey, Izoura secured 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block while shooting 60% from the field and going 8 for 8 from the free throw line.
