MCAC Winter Sports Athletes of the Week: Week of February 12-18

Rochester, MN - 

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its winter sports weekly awards for the week of February 12-18.

Destiny Piekarski, forward for Minnesota North College - Rainy River, earned this week's MCAC North Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. Piekarski scored 74 points, grabbed 23 rebounds, and had four assists, eight steals, and three blocks in her two games. She is averaging a double-double in each of her 20 games this season.  Central Lakes College guard Quamar Gresham scored 35 points and picked up seven rebounds, seven assists, and four steals in his 60 minutes of action. During the week, Gresham was 11 for 28 from the field, shooting 39.3%, to help his team pick up two wins, one of which was an overtime victory over #4 ranked Rainy River. Gresham earned this week's MCAC North Division Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award. 

Minnesota West Community and Technical College guard Olivia Hayenga led her team to two wins, one of which was over #1 ranked Rochester Community & Technical College, with her 54 points and 29 rebounds in 64 minutes of action this week.  Hayenga added 12 assists, two blocks, and seven steals while shooting 50% from the field and hitting 17 of her 19 free throws to earn the week's MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week honor. DeWayne Thompson, guard for Riverland Community College, earned this week's MCAC South Division Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award after scoring 44 points in the Blue Devils' two wins this week. Thompson made 16 of 26 shots from the field and shot 66.7% from behind the arc while grabbing five rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 46 minutes of action.
