MCAC Football Regular Season Concludes; Playoff Match-Ups Set

Winona, MN-

Ten of the 11 football teams in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference were on the gridiron today to wrap up the MCAC Football regular season. Several playoff implications were intertwined with the results and the top two teams of 2019 - North Dakota State College of Science and Mesabi Range College - squared off in a match-up of nationally ranked programs.

Central Lakes College defeated Northland Community & Technical College, 30-15.  With the win, the Raiders secure the fourth and final spot in the Eastern Division post-season berths.  With the loss, Northland will be the third seed in the West as post-season kicks off next Sunday.

Minnesota West CTC beat Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College, 41-36.   In the victory, the Blue Jays wrap up the second seed in the West, while the Thunder season comes to close at 0-9 for the year.

North Dakota State College of Science defeated Mesabi Range College, 18-15. In the battle of the two Division winners, the Wildcats used a field goal in the final minute of play to upend the previously unbeaten Norsemen.  Both MRC and NDSCS are the top seeds in the Eastern and Western Division, respectively and will host first round contests next week.

Rochester Community & Technical College beat M State-Fergus Falls 35-14. The Yellowjackets will look to use the momentum of the win as the advance to the post season in the third spot in the Eastern Division, where they will get a second try at Itasca Community College.  The M State-Fergus Falls Spartans conclude 2019 at 0-8 on the year.

Dakota College-Bottineau defeated Vermilion Community College, 32-27.  The 'Jacks finish the regular season as the #4 team in the Western Division, earning them a re-match with rival North Dakota State College of Science in the playoffs.  The VCC Ironmen conclude 2019 at 2-7 overall.

Itasca Community College was idle this week; holding the tiebreaker over RCTC, the Vikings will host the Yellowjackets in the MCAC quarterfinals next Sunday.
