Two MCAC Women's Basketball Programs Earn Trips to NJCAA Nationals

Rochester, Mn-

Two women's basketball programs from the Minnesota College Athletic Conference were selected to participate in the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Championships.  The event will be held March 16th -18th,  at the Jorgensen Events Center, located in Utica, New York.

After navigating the grind of the MCAC regular season, the Anoka-Ramsey Golden Rams and the Northland Community & Technical College Pioneers both earned the regular season championship in their respective South and North Divisions, carrying the #1 seeds into the Region XIIIA and Region XIIIB post-season tournaments.  While the No. 1 seed can bring with it post-season upsets, both NCTC and Anoka-Ramsey were able to hold off challengers in the Region tournaments to claim two of the eight spots in the National Tournament.

Head coach David DeWitt and his Anoka-Ramsey squad finished the regular season at 10-2 in the MCAC South, a solid 19-8 overall mark and most importantly, the Region XIIIA title.  In the North, the Pioneers, led by Shannon Nelson, turned in an impressive 11-1 Division record and will take a 24-3 overall record and the Region XIIIB hardware with them to New York.

The two MCAC schools will face off in the first round of the tournament, with the #2 seed NCTC headlining one half of a bracket which includes #7 Anoka-Ramsey, as well as #3 Roxbury and #6 Hostos who will play each other in the quarterfinals.   On the other side, #1 Rock Valley will see #8 Brookdale in quarterfinal action, while #4 Mohawk Valley will square off against #5 West Georgia Tech.
