Grand Rapids, MN-
The Minnesota College Athletic Conference 2018 Fall Clay Target season concluded on Sunday, October 14, marking the completion of the first varsity intercollegiate trap shooting competition in the upper Midwest and one of the first in the nation.
Conducted in partnership with industry-leader USA Clay Target League, the MCAC season attracted nine two-year college programs from across Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin. Additionally, the 2018 Fall Championships were held recently in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, allowing for the recognition of the regular season champions and top performers as well as allowing for MCAC teams to compete in person. The one-day Championship event at the Grand Rapids Gun Club fell on a chilly and windy Tuesday, October 16, but several individuals and teams rose to the occasion despite the conditions and earned additional honors for their colleges.
For the 2018 MCAC Clay Target regular season, teams competed in either the Eastern or Western Division, with squad size determining team placement. Eastern Division teams had rosters ranging from 18 to 45 student-athletes each, while the Western Division programs were between six and 16 participants.

In addition to the top performing teams and individuals from the inaugural MCAC Clay Target fall campaign, USA Clay Target and their TrueTeam software allowed for multiple categories of accomplishment throughout the season. These opportunities for student-athletes to excel include:
The 2018 MCAC Clay Target season, conducted in partnership with USA Clay Target, allowed for over 150 intercollegiate student-athletes to represent nine colleges across a highly competitive five week regular season. The nine MCAC member colleges competed each week at the home gun range, with coaches validating and uploading scores via USA Clay Target's TrueTeam software, allowing schools to save thousands of dollars in transportation costs.
At the conclusion of the five week regular season, over 140 of the 150 registered participants traveled with their teams to Grand Rapids Gun Club for the 2018 Fall Championships. For more on the season-ending Championship event, visit www.MCACSPORTS.org and look for our Friday feature story on October 19.
A special thanks to the USA Clay Target League, all nine MCAC member colleges, their coaches, administrations, Grand Rapids Gun Club and supporters for making this season a success.
