Riverland Starter, Bullpen Ace, Share Pitcher of Week Award

Rochester, Mn-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has named two baseball standouts Southern Division Co-Pitchers of the Week for the week of April 24-April 29th.

Riverland Community College starter,  Jake Erickson (La Crosse, WI), was a jack-of-all-trades on April 29th against Southern Division and I-90 rival, Rochester CTC.  Erickson threw 6 innings of impressive baseball, allowing only two hits and one earned run against the Yellowjackets, while striking out 5.  He was at work on the both sides of those six innings as well, going 1-for-3 from the plate, tallying an RBI and stealing a base.

One could image how Erickson could tire toward the end of a close game, given the effort on the mound, the batter's box and the basepaths.  Enter Mason Ruhlman.

Ruhlman closed the door on RCTC in the seventh, striking out one, and producing a 3-up 3-down last stanza to earn the save for Riverland.  And, as an encore, the freshman from Algonac, Michigan,  did it again in the nightcap, excelling in his second appearance of the day in identical fashion, striking out one 'Jacket and retiring the three batters he faced.

For their combined efforts, Erickson and Ruhlman have earned MCAC Southern Division Co-Pitchers-of-the-Week for April 24-29.
