Following the conclusion of the MCAC Football Championship game, the NJCAA Region XIII football selections have been named for the 2018 season. Head coaches from around the Minnesota College Athletic Conference honored student-athletes across 25 positions in offense, defense and special teams. Inclusion to the NJCAA All-Region team allows for student-athletes to be considered for NJCAA All-America honors, which will be announced in mid-December.
Northland Community & Technical College quarterback Craig Wells was the top offensive vote-getter and highest nominee overall, while Mesabi Range College defensive lineman Sam Okuayinonu was the top defensive player, just edging out Pioneer Tristin Murrin. Mesabi Range also had Connor Cusick pick up a pair of placements, securing both the punter and placekicker slots, with Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College athlete Trebian Suggs taking the Return Specialist position. Nick Radunz, a freshman from Becker, Minnesota suiting up at North Dakota State College of Science was the top offensive lineman named to the team and finished in the top five nominees overall.
Northland head coach Jim Cox was selected as Region XIII Coach-of-the-Year and will take his Pioneers (8-2 overall) to the Red Grange Bowl on Saturday, December 1 where they will face Nassau Community College (7-3). It is the second straight bowl game for the Pioneers; in 2017, Northland fell to Ellsworth (IA) Community College (3-7 overall), 55-14 in the opening game of the Graphic Edge Bowl. Nassau last participated in a bowl game in 2014, beating Scottsdale Community College 34-27 in the Valley of the Sun Bowl.
