Riverland and Mesabi Range Collect Weekly Honors

Two basketball student-athletes in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference  played important roles to strong starts for their teams during the second full week of January as Divisional action takes center stage. 

Bryce Hempel, a forward for Mesabi Range College and Robert Parker of Riverland Community College both turned in impressive performances for the week ending on January 14, and have been named MCAC Northern Division and Southern Division Players-of-the-Week for their efforts.

Robert Parker, a sophomore forward from Bloomington who plays for Riverland Community College, has been tabbed as the MCAC Southern Division Player-of-the-Week in men's basketball to for the week ending on January 14.

Parker averaged a double-double over the week in a pair of Blue Devil contests.  He averaged 18.5 points a game for the week, going 15-of-32 from the field.  Parker also average 12 boards a game and is clocking in at almost 30 minutes per contest. 

Riverland will face St. Cloud Technical and Community College and Rochester CTC on the road this week to continue Southern Division play.

       Mesabi Range College         

Playing against an NJCAA Division II opponent in Gogebic CC and a pair of MCAC North foes, Bryce Hempel averaged 18.7 points per game while pulling down 11 boards per contest.   Over the three outings, the freshman from Plymouth, Minnesota also blocked two shots per game.  His top performance was against Division II GCC, where he scored 20 points, grabbed 18 boards, blocked four shots and collected three assists. 

Hempel and his teammates are next in action on Wednesday, January 17 when they face Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College at 7:30pm in Cloquet.
