Title Up for Grabs in Region XIIIB Tournament

Rochester, Mn-

The 2017-18 women's basketball season in the Northern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference was one of the most closely contested races in many years; so close in fact, a coin flip had to decide where the post-season would occur.

Rainy River Community College  put together a terrific recruiting class over the off-season to help power their way to the top of the MCAC North standings in 2018, going 10-2 in league action.  However, long-standing North front-runner Northland Technical and Community College was equal to the task battled their way to share the Northern Division regular season title with the Voyaguers. The Pioneers won the coin toss for the right to host the NJCAA Region XIIIB tournament, and Thief River Falls will welcome not only RRCC, but nationally ranked Hibbing Community College and up-start Central Lakes College as well.

The Hibbing Cardinals were a major factor in the the regular season Northern Division women's basketball title race through the last regular season contest and have beaten every team in playoff field as least once this year.   Click here for final MCAC standings and more information on the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.

The Central Lakes College Raider squad put together a memorable season of their own, battling not only NCTC, RRCC and Hibbing, but also Mesabi Range College who came up just short in the hunt for a Regional berth. CLC will make the relatively short trip over to Northland to join the party as the fourth and final seed, with the momentum of an OT win on the last day of the regular season on their side.

Northland CTC, a NJCAA National Tournament participant last winter- will face Central Lakes at 2pm on Saturday.  Rainy River will tangle with Hibbing at 4pm.
