Ridgewater Wrestler Pins Down Weekly Honors

Rochester, MN-

Lucas Hagel of Ridgewater College has been chosen as the MCAC Wrestler of the Week for the week ending January 21.  Last week, Hagel went 4-0 with two wins by fall to claim the 125-pound championship at the Worthington Open, hosted by Minnesota West CTC.   In dual meet action Hagel also accepted a forfeit that provided the winning margin in Ridgewater's 24-18 win over Northland Community & Technical College. 

 
Also receiving votes this week was Itasca's Corey Schmidt. Wrestling at 197 pounds, Schmidt won three matches, including two wins over ranked opponents, in a seven day period. Schmidt defeated ninth ranked NCAA DIII Luke Dodd of St. John's, he beat NJCAA third-ranked athlete Mason Hawkins of RCTC by a 3-1 decision.  Schmidt also clinched Itasca's dual meet win over NCTC with a 16-0 technical fall over Hunter Roller.

  • Semifinal - Lucas Hagel (Ridgewater College) won by decision over Kevin Radcliff (Iowa Central Community College) (Dec 6-0)
  • 1st Place Match - Lucas Hagel (Ridgewater College) won by fall over Romelle Person (Iowa Central Community College) (Fall 4:57)
