MCAC Wrestlers Conclude Season at National Tournament

Over twenty wrestlers representing all five programs in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference concluded their seasons over this past weekend at the 2018-19 NJCAA Wrestling Championships held in Council Bluffs, Iowa. 

Rochester CTC student-athlete Shane Siewert advanced to the final four in the 174 lbs. Division, falling to Ashton Eyler (Iowa Central) in the semi-final but rebounding to cap off a strong season at 3rd overall with a win over Gage McBride (Barton).  RCTC's Morgen Moreno also had a strong outing for the Yellowjackets at the 197 lbs. Division, making his way to the quarterfinal round before concluding his season in the 5th place match.  Rochester's Alex LaPierre opened with a win in his first round match at 184 lbs, while teammate Tyler Zeman broke into the top eight at 149 lbs.   As a team, Rochester finished 12th overall at the National Tournament. 

Andre Baguma of Northland CTC wrestled his way into the top eight at the 285 lbs. Division before eventually falling to Antonio Andrade (Northeast Oklahoma) in the quarterfinals and concluding his season with a loss to Landon Brown (Western Wyoming).  Hunter Roller also represented Northland, competing at the 184 lbs. Division. 

Ridgewater College student-athlete Jacob Backlund worked his way into the top eight at 165 lbs., before falling to Noah Aziere (Cloud County).  Tanner Reetz, of Itasca Community College, also wrestled his way into the top eight at his weight class, the 133 lbs. Division.  Minnesota West CTC athlete Adam Rients picked up a first-round win for the Blue Jays before concluding his tournament in the consolation bracket.
