The 2018 MCAC Volleyball season concluded with Rochester Community & Technical College battling Central Lakes College in the third-place match of the NJCAA Division III National Championships, a statement to the strong brand of volleyball found throughout the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.
The NJCAA added to that resume today, as four student-athletes from four different MCAC programs were tabbed as NJCAA Division III All-America selections.

NJCAA Volleyball First TeamDivision III All-America

Paige Wallevand a sophomore at Central Lakes College was named to the First Team by the NJCAA Division III Volleyball Committee. Wallevand was a dominant player on a dominant team, earning several Conference and National Player-of-the-Week mentions and Player-of-the-Year status in the Northern Division. Wallevand and veteran head coach Jane Peterson led the Raiders to a 27-6 overall record and 12-0 mark in MCAC contests. The Henning, Minnesota product is also a current member of the Central Lakes women's basketball team, currently 3-2 on the year.

Carrie Rutledge, a freshman at Rochester Community & Technical College, was the catalyst for the Yellowjacket 12-0 MCAC South record. The 5'9" outside hitter from Hayfield, Minnesota helped coach Amber Zitzow and the RCTC squad to a home-court appearance in the NJCAA Division III National Championships, where they finished third in the nation. Overall, Rochester was 24-9 on the season and Rultledge led the Conference in kills with 470 total tallies. She was also second in Kills-per-set at 4.27. Rutledge and RCTC concluded 2018 by winning 10 of their final 11 matches, including a 4-1 mark in the NJCAA Division III post-season Regional and National Tournaments. |
NJCAA Volleyball Honorable MentionDivision III All-America

Andrea Hinkeldey, a sophomore at Minnesota West Community & Technical College has earned a place on the NJCAA Division III Volleyball All-America, Honorable Mention team. Hinkeldey led the MCAC in kills-per-set at 4.67 and was third in hitting percentage at .323 for the season. An outside hitter from Heron Lake, Minnesota, Hinkeldey led the LadyJays to a 6-6 Conference mark and a narrow, 3-2 loss to St. Cloud Technical & Community College kept them just out of the post-season. She nabbed All-Division, All-State and All-Region honors for her sophomore campaign as well.

Carly Mekash turned in an outstanding freshman year for Northland Community & Technical College and has claimed her spot on the NJCAA Division III Volleyball Honorable Mention All-America team. Mekash, a freshman outside hitter from Greenbush, Minnesota was a key part to the Pioneer 20-6 overall record and 10-2 MCAC Northern Division mark. She registerd 2.88 kills per set while helping Northland win four of their last five matches to conclude 2018. Mekash also suits up for the Pioneer women's basketball program, 4-1 on the year and currently sitting No. 1 in the NJCAA Division III basketball poll.
