The Southern Division of MCAC Volleyball enjoyed a busy weekend with a handful of matches that affected the playoff picture for several teams, while other squads used the week for some non-conference competition. When the dust settled, St. Cloud Technical & Community College remains in first place at 9-1 while a logjam is building in the middle of the standings, with several teams jostling for a top-four playoff spot by the end of October. The top individual performances in the full weekend slate of games have been recognized as Players-of-the-Week in the Southern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.
Defensive Player-of-the-Week:
After defeating Anoka Ramsey midweek, Ridgewater College traveled to Dallas, Texas to take on several top-caliber NJCAA volleyball squads, going 3-2 for the week. Warrior libero Jamie Goblirsch was more than equal to the task, as she accrued 130 digs over that time, excelling defensively for Ridgewater against a range of NJCAA competition. The Wabasso, Minnesota product averaged 6.5 digs per set for coach Joe Sussenguth's squad, currently sitting in second place in the MCAC South. Ridgewater returns to MCAC action on Wednesday, October 11th when they travel to Minnesota West CTC for a 6:30pm contest.
Hitter-of-the-Week:
Riverland Community College stretched Rochester CTC to a 5 set match this past Wednesday, narrowly falling to the Yellowjackets. Middle Hitter Sam Siskow had a strong outing for the Blue Devil squad, registering 34 kills in the MCAC South contest. Siskow also contributed 3 blocks and 13 digs in the effort in Austin. Siskow has 212 kills on the season and will lead her RCC teammates when they face Anoka Ramsey Community College in a match on Wednesday, October 11th at 6:30pm in Coon Rapids, Mn.
Setter-of-the-Week:
Minnesota West CTC picked up a pair of MCAC South victories over the past week. A key performer in the LadyJays wins over Anoka Ramsey Community College and Western Technical College was Emma Woelber; the Westbrook, Minnesota native had 29 assists in the ARCC contest and another 32 helpers in the win over WTC. Woebler is currently second in the MCAC in the Assists-Per-Set statistical category. For her efforts leading Minnesota West to two Conference wins, Woelber is the MCAC South Setter-of-the-Week.
All-Around Player-of-the-Week:
M State student-athlete Lindsey Dierks has been named the All-Around Player-of-the-Week in the MCAC Southern Division for MCAC Volleyball. The Chokio, Minnesota product, had 10 kills and 18 assists for the week, including 9 kills in the 3-1 win over Southern Division leader St. Cloud Technical & Community College. Dierks added a pair of blocks and racked up 23 digs over the two matches for the Spartans. Dierks and her teammates will take on Minnesota West CTC and Riverland Community College in MCAC action this week.
