The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has named the Week 9, MCAC Volleyball Players-of-the-Week in the Southern Division. The MCAC/Twin Cities Gateway Crossover Tournament and a handful of MCAC mid-week matches gave fans much to follow over the past seven days, as the regular season draws to a close with important fixtures yet to occurs this week.
MCAC South Hitter-of-the-Week:
Brooke Wendland, a middle hitter at Rochester Community & Technical College, turned in a strong performance against a variety of different opponents at the MCAC Crossover Tournament for the Yellowjackets. The sophomore from Balaton, Minnesota, helped lead her team to a 3-1 record over the past week of action which included wins over Itasca Community College, Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Northland CTC. Wendland current sits atop the MCAC in kills, with 357 total. In the last week of the regular season, RCTC will face three key matches this week, taking on Minnesota West CTC, M State and Ridgewater College.
MCAC South Setter-of-the-Week:
The Rochester Community & Technical College Yellowjackets put together an impressive week on the volleyball court, going 3-1 at the MCAC Crossover Tournament held at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Maddeson Hintz was key in the strong performance for RCTC, and has earned Setter-of-the-Week honors in the Southern Division for her efforts. Currently, Hintz is ranked fourth in the MCAC in assists per set (7.89). RCTC will face three key matches this week, with Minnesota West, M State and Ridgewater College all looming on the week's docket.
MCAC South Defensive Player-of-the-Week:
Chelsea Schroeder, of St. Cloud Technical & Community College, has earned the MCAC South Defensive Player-of-the-Week award. Schroeder put together a week in which she had a 6.27 Digs Per Set and collected three aces from the service line. She helped the Cyclones collect a pair of wins at the MCAC Crossover tournament to recover from a 3-2 loss to Ridgewater College earlier in the week. SCTCC heads into a final MCAC regular season contest on Friday, in which they will take on Minnesota West CTC, hosting the LadyJays in an important Southern Division tilt for both teams.
MCAC South All-Around Player-of-the-Week:
The MCAC Volleyball Week 9 All Around Player-of-the-Week has been awarded to Kassandra Algarate of M State. The Hancock, Minnesota freshman earns the nod for the honor in helping her Spartan squad put together an outstanding week against some of the top MCAC foes, including Central Lakes College, Northland CTC, Hibbing Community College and Mesabi Range. Algarate had 45 kills for the week, to go with 52 digs, four blocks and six aces. M-State has played their way into an opportunity to gain a spot this week in the Region XIIIA playoffs. The top four finishing teams in the Southern Division race will advance to the NJCAA Regional post-season.
