MCAC Division Winners Recognized by Peers

Rochester, MN:

In leading their teams to both the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Division title and by earning their respective Region XIII trophies, Shannon Nelson (Northland CTC) and David DeWitt (Anoka Ramsey) have earned Coach-of-the-Year honors for the 2016-17 MCAC Women's Basketball season.

Nelson will lead her Pioneer squad into the NJCAA National Tournament, held in Utica New York, on March 16th-18th.  It marks the second season in a row that Northland will make the trip to the National stage; in 2016 they fell in the title game to Roxbury, 61-57.

DeWitt will also be treading on familiar ground, having led his Anoka Golden Rams to the 2016 Big Dance, where his squad was a #6 seed and dropped their quarterfinal game to Mohawk Valley. Coach DeWitt is completing his 10th season at the helm in Coon Rapids and will be looking for his squad to make a run in this year's 2017 National Championship.

Ironically, the two MCAC Coaches-of-the-Year will face off in their quarterfinal match up in New York.  The NJCAA Division III Tournament pits 2nd seeded Northland against 7th seed Anoka in a noon tip-off on Thursday, March 16th.  For more NJCAA National Tournament information, please visit: http://www.njcaa.org/sports/wbkb/index
