Anoka Ramsey battles but falls to Roxbury, 83-71

Rochester, MN:

After dispatching MCAC counterpart Northland Tech on Thursday evening, 74-72, the #7 seed Anoka-Ramsey Golden Ram women's basketball team had momentum heading into today's semi-final tilt with Roxbury Community College. However, Anoka was once-again the underdog, with the 3rd seeded Roxbury cruising to their quarterfinal win the day prior and taking the court knowing only 40 minutes stood between either team and a chance to play for the National Championship.

Coach David DeWitt's squad found itself in a similar battle as their game the night before, with a tight contest that involved several lead changes and neither team able to open up a points gap until the last few minutes of the game.  A one-point lead for Anoka-Ramsey at the end of the 3rd quarter melted into a 10-point deficit from which they could not recover.  Ultimately, Roxbury defeated Anoka Ramsey 83-71, sending Anoka to the consolation side of the bracket and Roxbury into the championship game.

With the loss, the Golden Rams will play tomorrow, at 5pm in the 3rd place game.

Rashonna Thomas was a big part of the Rams 20-8 overall record this season, averaging over 22 points an outing and also tallying more than 3 steals a contest.  DeWitt will also return a pair of freshman guards, Leatah Turmon and Alyssa Correll, who both account for double-digit scoring and significant minutes on the floor.
