NJCAA Post-Season Wrestling Events Highlight Upcoming Weeks

Wrestling teams from across the Minnesota College Athletic Conference  are set to travel to Grand Rapids, Minnesota for the 2019-20 NJCAA Region XIII North District Wrestling Tournament held on Sunday, February 23 at Itasca Community College.  

Rochester Community & Technical CollegeRidgewater College, Minnesota West CTC and Northland Community & Technical College will join host Itasca Community College  in competition at several weight classes. 

The top individual performances in each division shall earn the opportunity to advance to the 2019-20 NJCAA Wrestling National Championships held March 6-7 at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

In the most recent February 6, 2020 NJCAA Wrestling Rankings, the RCTC Yellowjackets sit in the No. 14 spot tied with both Nassau (NY) Community College and Northeastern (CO) Community College as the lone MCAC representative in the poll.  RCTC is one of the highest rated NJCAA Division III programs in the country found in the rankings; in the NJCAA sports of football, lacrosse and wrestling, all NJCAA levels (I, II and III) are rated in the same poll. 

Individually, RCTC wrestling student-athletes also lead the way for MCAC programs, with Yellowjacket Seth Brossard sitting among the 157lb. Division at #5 and Richie Hammonds representing Rochester in the 184 lb. category, where he is is ranked #8 nationally.

Earlier this year, wrestling programs from the Minnesota College Athletic Conference competed in their MCAC Dual Championships held mid-season this year; RCTC claimed top honors at 4-0, followed by Northland CTC (3-1), Itasca Community College (2-2), Minnesota West CTC (1-3) and Ridgewater College (0-4).
