U.S. Marines MCAC Winter Sports Athletes-of-the-Week Announced: Week of November 8-14

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its first weekly athlete-of-the-week awards for the 2021-22 winter sports.  This week's awards cover the week of November 8 - 14.  The weekly athlete-of-the-week awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College (FDLTCC) guard Demetrius Torrence began his collegiate career on a terror, putting up 57 points and grabbing nine rebounds in his two games during the week.  Torrence earns this weeks MCAC North Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor.

Sophomore shooting guard for Rainy River Community College, Arcadya Conway, earns this week's MCAC North Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week award after scoring 13 points and pulling down 9 rebounds in her team's win over Bay College.

Jamari Magee, Riverland Community College freshman guard, scored 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting while also getting 3 assists and two steals to earn the MCAC South Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week award.

In her team's two wins last week, Demayiah Hill from Anoka-Ramsey Community College, scored 43 points and had 4 steals to earn her the MCAC South Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honors.

This week's MCAC Wrestling Athlete-of-the-Week honor goes to Jake Davis of Northland Community and Technical College.  Davis went 2-0 with two first period wins, needing only 39 seconds to pin one of his opponents.

Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College freshman guard, Demetrius Torrence, scored 57 points in 66 minutes of play last week to earn the MCAC North Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week award.  Torrence, from Little Rock, Arkansas, hit eight 3-point shots while pulling down 9 rebounds, getting 3 steals, and assisting on 5 baskets.

The Thunder lost both of their games last week, and return to the court on Sunday at Finlandia University.

Arcadya Conway, sophomore shooting guard for Rainy River Community College, has been named the MCAC North Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week.  The Houston, Texas native scored 13 points and grabbed 9 rebounds and 2 steals, with 3 assists in her 37 minutes of play.

Rainy River is now 1-0 on the season and returns to the court on Friday to take on Itasca Community College at the Vermilion Tournament.

Nataj Sanders (MBB, Forward, Mesabi Range College): 35 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 blocks in 46 minutes.

Jamari Magee

Jamari Magee, frehman guard playing for Riverland Community College, hit 7 of 10 shots, and went 3 for 3 from behind the 3-PT arc, to score 18 points for the Blue Devils on his way to earning the MCAC South Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor.  The Milwaukee, MI product also had 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block in his teams 89-50 win over Dakota State.

Riverland is now 1-0, and they take the court again on Tuesday when they host Luther College.

Demayiah Hill

Coon Rapids, MN

 

 

 

Anoka-Ramsey Community College point guard, Demayiah Hill, played 48 minutes in her team's two wins last week and earns the MCAC South Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week award.  The freshman from Coon Rapids, MN scored 43 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and 4 steals, while also assisting on 6 baskets. She led her team to dominate wins over Gogebic Community College and #10 Madison College.

The Golden Rams are now 2-0 and play again Wednesday at Viterbo University.

Erin Knisley (WBB, Forward, St. Cloud Technical CC): 31 points, 24 rebounds, 6 blocks, and a steal.

Mikayla Kanenwisher (WBB, PG, Anoka-Ramsey CC): 26 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, 7 steals, and 2 blocks.

Olivia Christianson (WBB, Guard, Rochester CTC): 32 points, 13 rebounds, 6 steals, and 4 blocks in 35 minutes.

 

 

     

MCAC Wrestling Athlete-of-the-Week

 

 

Jake Davis

Fr. / 149 lb. weight class

Thief River Falls, MN

 

 

 

Jake Davis, 149 lb. freshman wrestler from Northland Community and Technical College, earns this week's MCAC Wrestling Athlete-of-the-Week honor.  Davis went 2-0 with two first period wins by fall during the Minnesota West Triangular.  Davis pinned Ridgewater College's Lane Lembke in 2 minutes 35 seconds, and later pinned Minnesota West's Kyler Grems in 39 seconds. 

NCTC Pioneers finished 1-1 at the tournament, and they wrestle again on Saturday at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN.

 

Other Notable Wrestling Performers

Tristian Lang (133 lb, Ridgewater College): went 2-0 winning both by falls at 2:55 and 3:34.

Walker Ingham (174 lb, Rochester CTC): went 5-1 at Luther Open and placed 3rd at the event.
