U.S. Marines MCAC Baseball Athletes of the Week: Week of March 7 -13

Rochester, MN-

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its baseball athlete-of-the-week awards for the week of March 7 - 13.  The baseball athlete-of-the-week awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Ryan Vondracek, sophomore pitcher for Hibbing Community College, earns the MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week after striking out 21 batters over 12 innings of work in his two appearances last week. Dawson Tweet, sophomore 2nd baseman for Mesabi Range College, hit .400 with 6 RBI and 3 doubles to earn the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week.

St. Cloud Technical and Community College's sophomore pitcher, Drew Beier, is the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week.  Beier scattered 5 hits over 7 innings and gave up only 1 run in his first win of the season. Erubiel Ozana, Central Lakes College centerfielder, went 7 for 9 from the plate, hitting .778 with a home run and 5 RBI to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week.

T Mickelson returns to the mound for Rochester Community & Technical College after a strong 2021 campaign and picks up where he left off. Mickelson threw 7 innings of 5 hit, 1 run work in his one appearance last week, and earns the MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  Blake Schilling, sophomore right fielder for Rochester Community & Technical College, went 7 for 16, hitting .437 with 4 RBI and a double to pick up the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week award.

Ryan Vondracek

Cedar Rapids, IA

 

 

 

Hibbing Community College sophomore pitcher, Ryan Vondracek, appeared in two games during the week, striking out 21 and walking 9 in 12 innings of action. The Cedar Rapids, IA product went 1-1 on the week with a 6.00 ERA, giving up 15 hits and nine runs in his two appearances.  Vondracek is this week's MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week. 

The Cardinals are 1-7 on the season and next play at Century College on Saturday.

Russell, Manitoba

 

 

 

Dawson Tweet has been named the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week. The sophomore second baseman for Mesabi Range College went 4 for 10 (.400) from the plate, with 3 doubles and 3 walks. The Russell, Manitoba native scored three times and drove in 6 runs helping his Norsemen team to a win over RV Owens Community College.

Mesabi Range is now 2-6 on the season, and they return to action on Friday at St. Johns JV.

Drew Beier

Foley, MN

 

 

 

Drew Beier, sophomore pitcher at St. Cloud Technical & Community College, gave up only one run over 7 innings to earn his first win of the season and the MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  Beier, from Foley, MN, scattered 5 hits, walking one, and striking out one batter in his 1 appearance.  He also went 6 for 13 from the plate with a double and 4 RBI.

The Cyclones are 3-1 on the young season, and they take the field again this afternoon at Indian Hills Community College.

 

Erubiel Ozuna

Casa Verde, AZ

 

 

 

Central Lakes College center fielder, Erubiel Ozuna, went 7 for 9 from the plate for a .778 batting average and hitting an inside-the-park homerun to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week honor.  The freshman from Casa Verde, AZ scored 6 runs and had 5 RBI with 2 walks.

The Raiders are 5-5, and next play again on March 24 at Morningside University JV.

Jackson Peter (3B, St. Cloud Technical CC): 6 for 10, .600 BA, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 6 runs, 3 walks.

Brad Bickmann (3B, Ridgewater College): 11 for 22, .500 avg., 3 doubles, 2 triples, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 6 runs, 6 walks.

Gunnar Wicklund (C/1B, Central Lakes College): 8 for 21, .381 avg., 3 doubles, 2 triples, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 4 runs, 1 walk.

Christian Norby (OF, Minnesota State CTC): 3 for 8, .375 avg., 2 doubles, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 1 run.

T Mickelson, right-handed pitcher for Rochester Community and Technical College, earns this week's MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  The sophomore from Rochester, MN went 1-0 in his one appearance, throwing 7 innings and giving up only 1 run and 5 hits while striking out 9. Mickelson put together a 1.29 ERA in his lone outing.

Rochester Community and Technical College is 5-5 on the season, and they return to the field on March 25 at Rockford University JV. 

 

Blake Schilling

Lewiston, MN

Rochester Community and Technical College right fielder, Blake Schilling, went 7 for 16 from the plate (.437 avg.) with a double and 4 RBI to earn the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week honor.  The sophomore from Lewiston, MN scored one run and stole 3 bases during the week.

The Yellowjackets are 5-5 and play again on March 25 at Rockford University JV.
