U.S. Marines MCAC Baseball Athletes of the Week: Week of May 2-8

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its baseball athlete-of-the-week awards for the week of May 2 - 8.  The baseball athlete-of-the-week awards are sponsored by the U.S. Marines

Itasca Community College right-handed pitcher, Avery Liestman, has been named the MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week, throwing 14 innings of one run ball and striking out 17.  Mesabi Range College first baseman, Brandon Lind, hit .454 with two doubles, 2 triples, and three home runs to earn the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week honor.

Christian Lessman, St. Cloud Technical and Community College right-handed pitcher, is the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week.  Lessman threw 7 innings, giving up only 2 hits and no runs while striking out 10. Erubiel Ozuna, center fielder for Central Lakes College, went 13 for 26 from the plate with two doubles, a triple, and 9 RBI to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week.

Earning the MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week honor is Riverland Community College right-handed pitcher, Jack Jellinger. Jellinger threw 7 innings of one-hit ball and did not give up a run while striking out 7 in his lone appearance. Western Technical College right fielder, Lucas Gosewehr, picks up the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week award. Going 10 for 12 with an .833 batting average, Gosewehr hit two doubles and 3 home runs while driving in 10.

Avery Liestman

Litchfield, MN

 

 

 

Itasca Community College freshman right-handed pitcher, Avery Liestman, went 2-0 in his two starts and threw 14 innings during the week, giving up only 1 earned run while striking out 17. The Litchfield, MN native scattered 8 hits and walked only 2 batters, compiling a weekly ERA of 0.64. Liestman is this week's MCAC North Pitcher-of-the-Week. 

The Vikings are 18-20 on the season and 9-3 in the MCAC North, claiming the MCAC North title last week.  They are next scheduled to play in the Region XIII Tournament on Thursday in St. Cloud, MN.

 

Brandon Lind

Hibbing, MN

 

 

 

Brandon Lind has been named the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week. The freshman 1st baseman for Mesabi Range College went 10 for 22 (.454) from the plate, with two doubles, two triples, and three home runs. The Hibbing, MN product scored four times and drove in 11 runs while also stealing a base and walking twice. 

Mesabi Range is now 13-21 on the season and 7-5 in conference play, and they return to action on Thursday at the Region XIII Tournament in St. Cloud, MN.

Christian Lessman, right-handed pitcher at St. Cloud Technical and Community College, went 1-0 in his one appearance during the week, giving up only two hits in 7 innings. The New London-Spicer product earns the week's MCAC Central Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  Lessman struck out 10 and walked only two in his win, putting together a weekly ERA of 0.00. 

The Cyclones are 19-10 on the season and 11-5 in MCAC Central play. They take the field again on Thursday at the Region XIII Tournament in St. Cloud, MN. 

 

Erubiel Ozuna

Casa Grande, AZ

 

 

 

Central Lakes College centerfielder, Erubiel Ozuna, went 13 for 26 from the plate for a .500 batting average and drove in 9 runs to earn the MCAC Central Player-of-the-Week honor.  The freshman from Casa Grande, AZ hit two doubles, a triple, and scored nine runs while walking four times and stealing 4 bases.

The Raiders are 26-13 overall and 13-3 in MCAC Central action.  They next play again on Thursday at the Region XIII Tournament in St. Cloud, MN.

Jack Jellinger, right-handed pitcher for Riverland Community College, earns this week's MCAC South Pitcher-of-the-Week honor.  The freshman from Albert Lea, MN went 1-0 in his one start, throwing 7 innings without giving up a run.  Jellinger struck out 7, giving up only one hit while walking four, compiling a 0.00 ERA for the week.

The Blue Devils are 20-24 on the season and 8-8 in the MCAC South. They return to the field on Thursday at the Region XIII Tournament in St. Cloud, MN. 

 

Lucas Gosewehr

Western Technical College right fielder, Lucas Gosewehr, went 10 for 12 from the plate, hitting .833 with two doubles and 3 home runs. The sophomore from Grafton, WI earns the week's MCAC South Player-of-the-Week honor.  Gosewehr scored 11 runs and drove in 10.  He was also walked 3 times. 

The Cavaliers season ends at 17-30 overall and 4-12 in the MCAC South.
