SCTCC Baseball and MNC Itasca Softball Qualify for NJCAA DIII World Series

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) will be represented at both the 2023 NJCAA DIII Baseball and NJCAA DIII Softball World Series. St. Cloud Technical and Community College won the North Plains District Tournament to claim their spot in the baseball championships and Minnesota North College Itasca won the North Plains District B Tournament to secure a position in the softball championships.

St. Cloud Technical and Community College (SCTCC) began the North Plains District Tournament by defeating Rochester Community & Technical College 5-4 on opening day, and then getting a 2-1 win over Alexandria Technical & Community College in the semifinals to advance to the finals. After Alexandria climbed back into the championship game, SCTCC secured the title with a 12-5 win. This will be the Cyclones' third straight appearance at the NJCAA DIII World Series. This year's tournament will take place at Pioneer Park in Greeneville, TN on May 27 - June 1.

Minnesota North College Itasca defeated MNC Mesabi Range 9-5 in the first round of the North Plains District B Tournament and then picked up a tough win over Central Lakes College in the semifinal game 6-4 to move on to the championship game. Central Lakes College advanced to the championship game after defeating MNC Rainy River. In a defensive battle, MNC Itasca grabbed the 2-1 win over Central Lakes to earn their 10th appearance in the NJCAA DIII Softball World Series. This year's tournament will be held May 24-27 at Carrier Park in DeWitt, NY.

SCTCC will take an overall record of 24-10 into their tournament and will await the bracket release on Tuesday, May 23 to find out when they will play in the opening round.

Itasca will enter as the #8 seed with their 18-19 record. They will begin tournament play against #1 seed North Dakota State College of Science on Wednesday, May 24 at 12:00 PM CT. North Dakota State College of Science is 31-13 on the season and secured its spot in the World Series by claiming the North Plains District A Tournament title with a championship game win over MCAC member Anoka-Ramsey Community College.
