Legends Volleyball finishes 3rd in 2023 NJCAA Division III Volleyball Championship Tournament

In their second season as a team, Alexandria Technical and Community College Legends Volleyball finished 3rd in the 2023 NJCAA Division III Volleyball Championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on November 11.

The Legends entered the tournament as the 12th-seeded team. Their only loss in the tournament came from 1st seed and tournament winners Dallas College - Eastfield Harvester Bees.  

The Legends bested Fulton-Montgomery 3-0 and Monroe College–Bronx 3-1 before falling to Dallas College–Eastfield in the semifinal. Fulton-Montgomery and Monroe–Bronx were seeded 5 and 4, respectively. Fulton-Montgomery had previously been undefeated, losing only three sets prior to the Legends' sweep.

The Legends then defeated Owens 3-1 in the third-place match to finish third in the nation.

  • 1st Place - Dallas Eastfield (no. 1 seed)
  • 2nd Place - Century College (no. 3 seed)
  • 3rd Place - Alexandria (no. 12 seed)
  • 4th Place - Owens (no. 2 seed)

After the championship tournament, Legends Volleyball player Kendall Buerman was named to the NJCAA Division III All-Championship Team.

The Legends finished the season with a 21-7 record. For a fresh team in its second year, the Legends Volleyball team has done incredible things. We applaud the players for their hard work, perseverance, and dedication to the sport, their studies, and each other. Congratulations on an amazing season!
