2024 MCAC Baseball Season Preview

2024 MCAC Baseball Season Preview

Rochester, MN-

With the spring's pleasant temperatures upon Minnesota, baseball games have begun early throughout the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC). As the conference season nears, the MCAC head baseball coaches took time to share their thoughts and predictions for the 2024 season.

MCAC Baseball competes at the NJCAA Division III level and is divided into a North, Central, and South division.

South Division coaches selected Century College as the likely team to claim the South Division title again this season. Century went 34-16 in 2023 with an MCAC South Division title and a 13-3 record. With many new players on the roster in 2024, the Wood Ducks may be challenged early but should be playing in the postseason again this season. In the Central Division, Alexandria Technical & Community College narrowly beat out St. Cloud Technical & Community College as the predicted favorite to win the title.  Returning nearly their entire team from last season that saw the Legends finish as the 2023 Region 13 runner-up in their inaugural season of competition, Alexandria should better their 23-10 record, and they look to capture the Region 13 title in 2024. Itasca Community College was picked as the favorite again this season to win the North Division.  With the return of 13 experienced sophomores who have demonstrated strong leadership, the Vikings are planning a repeat of 2023 when they won the North Division title. Their 25-18 record from 2023 should be improved upon this season, and a deep run in the postseason is predicted.

For the 2024 season, Northland Community and Technical College will be the lone college with a first-year skipper. Jonathan Lund takes over the Pioneer program, and with the return of several sophomores to lead the way, Lund should have success in his first season. Justin Lamppa (Minnesota North College Itasca – 27 years) and Josh Koenig (Minnesota North College Rainy River – 15 years) are the most tenured coaches in the conference and the only coaches to have been with their current college for over a decade.

Read on for the predicted order of finish in each division and for season previews of the teams who comprise the South, Central, and North Division ranks of the MCAC. Be sure to follow @MCACSports and @NJCAABaseball on Twitter for the latest in MCAC and NJCAA two-year college baseball news, rankings, and season information.

We have 13 players who have topped 85 mph plus, including three players who have topped 90 mph. We will be very deep throughout. If we can stay healthy and compete every day, we will be a tough out."

We have depth at key positions and a ton of versatility throughout the roster. It is a gritty team that will battle every game from the first pitch until the last out. Defense should be solid, where strength up the middle will lead the charge."
