Central Lakes Competes in Red Grange Bowl

GLEN ELLYN, Ill., December 3rd, 2016 –

The inaugural Red Grange Bowl concluded in dramatic fashion as DuPage (Ill.) upset No. 6 Central Lakes (Minn.) 25-22 in overtime Saturday at MacDougall Field.

  • After tying the game at 22-22 with 30 seconds remaining, Central Lakes was flagged for excessive celebration. Moving the point-after attempt back 15 yards, the Raiders missed the extra-point.
  • In overtime, DuPage recovered a fumble near the goal line and hit a walk-off field goal for the win.
  • Chaparrals quarterback Evan Scales completed 6 of 11 passes for 103 yards, adding 46 yards and two touchdowns on six rushes.
  • Running back Marcus Jester anchored the DuPage ground game with 19 carries for 144 yards and a touchdown.
  • Darian Pollion was the Chaparrals top receiving threat, hauling in three catches for 97 yards.
  • DuPage linebacker Shane Ratkovich led all players with 11 tackles, including nine solo and two for a loss.
  • The Chaparrals forced three turnovers, including an interception by Jalen Powe. Mitchell Boals forced and recovered a fumble, while Nik Wadsworth recorded a fumble recovery of his own.
  • Central Lakes' defense was led by Jorgen Erickson who tallied four tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles.
  • Raiders quarterback Mike Tveitbakk connected on 25 of 41 passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Finishing the season with a winning record, DuPage improved to 6-5 with the victory. The Chaparrals' record in NJCAA bowl games moves to 12-9 all-time.
  • Suffering its first loss of the year, Central Lakes fell to 11-1 for the season. The Raiders are now 0-7 all-time in NJCAA bowl games.
