MCAC Men's Basketball: Athletes-of-the-Week

Men's basketball teams in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference moved into the heart of their MCAC Divisional schedules last week, and a pair of student-athletes have been tabbed as Athlete-of-the-Week for their efforts in the MCAC race.

Adidas, the United States Marine Corps and Nicklasson Athletic Company sponsor the MCAC Athlete-of-the-Week awards, and proudly honor the following student-athletes for their performances this past week on behalf of their teams.

Men's Basketball

Northern Division 

Athlete-of-the-Week

Bakri Gubara

Soph. / Guard

Nashville, TN

                                                         

The Performance:   Pioneer forward Bakri Gubara had an impressive week for Northland Community & Technical College and has been tabbed the Northern Division Athlete-of-the-Week in men's basketball for his efforts. 

The Nashville, Tennessee product had 52 points over two games for NCTC, going 1-1 in MCAC Northern Division play. Gubara was impressive from the foul line, going 12-of-13 for the week.

He was 17-of-32 overall from the floor and hit seven three pointers combined between the two games. 

Northland will continue to compete in MCAC Northern Division play on Wednesday when they travel to Grand Rapids to take on Itasca Community College.

Southern Division 

Athlete-of-the-Week

Torez Kinchen

Soph. / Guard

Baton Rouge, LA

 

The Performance:  St. Cloud Community & Technical College sophomore guard Torez Kinchen led his team to a pair of key victories this past week and has been selected as the men's basketball Athlete-of-the-Week in the MCAC Southern Division. 

In a 87-75 win over nationally-ranked Riverland Community College and a 95-86 victory over MnWestKinchen was dominant.  The Baton Rouge product scored 48 total points over the two games for the Cyclones, while also hauling in 12 boards.  Addtionally, Kinchen had five assists and a pair of steals for SCTCC.  He was 16-of-19 from the free throw line and was 12-of-22 from the floor. 

Kinchen and his SCTCC are currently ranked #3 in the NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball poll and will face Ridgewater College on Wednesday.
