Mesabi Softball Lands Two Weekly Awards

Rochester, Mn-

The Mesabi Range College softball team endured a chilly week of April 24-29 to collect five wins- scoring a total of 78 runs in the process. Not surprisingly, one of their top offensive players, Lexi Hill, has earned the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Northern Division 'Player-of-the-Week' Award for that same time period.  Additionally, Mesabi Range picks up 'Athlete of the Week' accolades for the two-faceted performance of Joely Roberts, who led both from the plate and pitcher's circle.

Lexi Hill was tough to stop at the plate, as she connected for a .600 average and .714 on-base-percentage.  Hill hit three home runs, helping her contribute to 12 RBI's for the Lady Norse. Opponents found one way to keep her from hitting - intentional walks - which she drew four of over the course week. However, Hill also accounted for 12 runs scored for Mesabi Range, showing that her ability on the basepaths was just as effective as standing at the plate.

As a pitcher, Joely Roberts earned four wins and a save for Mesabi Range; two of the wins were complete game performances and she notched 11 strikeouts against her opponents.  When it was her turn to step in the batters box, Roberts put on a offensive display of her own, hitting for a .579 batting average, three doubles and 14 runs batted in. Roberts also had five steals.

Mesabi Range currently sits at 7-2 in conference play, 18-9 overall and are riding a 5-game winning streak.  For complete coverage of Minnesota College Athletic Conference softball, including current standings, please go to: www.mcacsports.org
