Retzlaff Named MCAC/Gopher Sport Coach-of-the-Year

Rochester, Mn-

After leading his M State Spartan golf team to their 7th MCAC championship in seven years, Jason Retzlaff has been named the Minnesota College Athletic Conference/Gopher Sports 'Golf Coach-of-the-Year' for 2017.

Retlzaff's squad had to battle a crowded field in their most recent Conference and Regional success.  Playing on The Quarry at Giant's Ridge in Bibawik, Minnesota, the Spartans found themselves sitting behind Southwest (WI) Technical College after the first day, and only a few strokes above host Mesabi Range College.  However, day two brought out the best in Retzlaff and his team, as they fired a team composite score of 628 to win the MCAC title by eleven strokes over Mesabi Range (639) and the NJCAA Region XIII trophy by a single stroke over Southwest Tech (629).

With the wins, M State has captured the MCAC golf title and qualified for the NJCAA Division III Golf Championships to be conducted in Chautuaqua, New York in early June.  The Minnesota College Athletic Conference/Gopher Sports 'Golf Coach-of-the-Year' award is the first of several 'Coach-of-the-Year' awards sponsored in 2017-18 by Gopher Sport.  Based in Owatonna, Minnesota, Gopher Sport is an industry leader in Physical Education, sports and fitness equipment.  Gopher Sport is dedicated to providing programs and departments with the products to improve fitness, develop skills, create fun and reach a high standard of learning and living.
