MCAC Baseball Northern Division Weekly Awards April 17-23

Rochester, Mn-

 ICC pitcher Gabe Magnusson

Rainy River Community College infielder Andrew Black was a run-away favorite for the MCAC North Player-of-the-Week award- literally.    Black ranks fifth in the NJCAA Division III statistical standings for stolen bases (21), and found his way on base frequently over April 17-22, allowing him to tear up the basepaths for his Voyageur squad.  Overall, Black went 5-of-15 from the plate, earned two walks and scored 3 runs in four games for Rainy River, who played .500 ball on the week of April 17-23.  Currently, Rainy River owns a 2-2 MCAC North record, and sits at 14-14 overall.

On the mound, Itasca Community College pitcher Gabe Magnusson was called into duty early on in ICC's opening game against Hibbing Community College.  Taking the mound in relief just two outs into the game, and already down 4-0 to HCC, Magnusson went the rest of the way for the Vikings, pulling them out of the hole and on the path to a 6-5 victory.  The win greased the wheels for ICC, who went on to sweep Hibbing on the weekend, earning four wins total over their rivals. Magnusson pitched 6.1 innings, scattering 4 hits and only conceding one additional run, while striking out three Cardinals.  Itasca sits at 10-0 in MCAC North play.
