Central Division Weekly Recognition Goes to SCTCC, Ridgewater

Rochester, Mn-

St. Cloud Technical and Community College baseball pitcher Ricardo Garcia went the distance en route to a complete game shutout - and MCAC Central Division Pitcher-of-the-Week honors, while Ridgewater College outfielder Braxton Smith hit the ball consistently across eight games, taking Player-of-the-Week accolades for April 17-22.

Garcia, a sophomore from Mirimar, Florida, struck out nine Ridgewater College hitters in seven innings of work, allowed a measly five hits over that span and earned his sixth win for the Cyclones on the 2017 season.   SCTCC, currently ranked 3rd in the nation in NJCAA Division III baseball, were held to just three runs against Ridgewater, but they were enough to take the 3-0 win on the day.  Garica was quite efficient, walking only two of the 28 hitters he faced.

Ridgewater College outfielder Braxton Smith and his Warrior teammates put in overtime this past week, playing four double headers total - two against the JV teams from St. John's University and the University of St. Thomas, as well as MCAC foes Minnesota State-FF and St. Cloud Technical and Community College.  Smith was a consistent offensive force, going 8-for-24, earning four walks and hitting both a double and sacrifice fly.  He also stole a base and was solid defensively, while scoring 5 runs for RC.  For his efforts, Smith was named the MCAC Central Division Player-of-the-Week.
