MCAC Southern Division Player and Pitcher of the Week

Rochester, Mn-

Minnesota West outfielder Rey Torres earned his second Player-of-the-Week award in as many weeks while leading his Minnesota West teammates to a 4-0 weekend, downing both RCTC and Western Tech in Southern Division action.

Riverland Community College Pitcher Xavier Ocasio had stellar command of his game in an outing against Central Lakes College recently, earning a 5-2 win and Pitcher-of-the-Week honors in the process.

Torres hit for .700 average (7-for-10) and drew three walks, driving in six runs.  On the basepaths, he was equally dangerous, stealing three bases and scoring 9 runs over the course of the week.  Four of Torres' hits were doubles.  Minnesota West currently has a 19-15 record overall, and is  unbeaten in 6 MCAC South contests.

Ocasio found himself in a solid pitching duel with Central Lakes College pitcher Levi Jeska on April 21st and Riverland rode his stellar control to an evenual 5-2 victory over the Raiders.  Both hurlers went the distance in the contest, but Ocasio earned the win, giving up only five hits and two runs (both earned), while walking two and striking out five.  With the win, the Riverland squad had momentum going into a double-header sweep of Anoka Ramsey the next day, moving their Southern Division record to 4-2 and a 19-4 overall mark.
