MCAC Football Week 7 Players-of-the-Week: Western Division

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has named the following student-athletes "Players-of-the-Week" in their respective roles for Week 7 in MCAC Football. 

MCAC Western Division Offensive Player-of-the-Week:

 

Shannon Patrick, quarterback for Northland Community and Technical College and his teammate Dakari Highsmith  led the Pioneers to an important 42-30 victory over North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday.  The signal caller threw for 394 yards and four touchdowns against the Wildcats.   Furthermore, Patrick did not have interception and contributed 13 ground yards of his own on five carries, including a 14-yard run.   His favorite target on the day, Highsmith, had a touchdown toss among his 11 catches, totaling a team-best 157 yards.  His longest catch of the day was a 38 yard effort from Patrick.   Northland CTC will wrap up it's regular season with a non-Divisional contest at Itasca Community College on Saturday, October 21st.  Kickoff is set for 3pm.  For his efforts,  Shannon Patrick is the MCAC Western Division Offensive Player-of-the-Week.

 

MCAC Western Division Defensive Player-of-the-Week:


  
Michael Preuss, of Minnesota West Community & Technical College had an impressive defensive display this past Saturday; the sophomore linebacker from Adrian, Minnesota, tallied 13 total tackles for MnWest against a high-powered Ridgewater offense.  Along with his 13 stops, Preuss had a tackle-for-loss and a pass breakup for the Bluejays.   Minnesota West and Preuss will look to rebound from their 39-36 loss to Ridgewater when they travel to Vermilion Community College in Ely, Minnesota for a noon kickoff to close out the 2017 regular season.   For his efforts, Michael Preuss is the MCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the Western Division.

 

MCAC Western Division Special Teams Player-of-the-Week:

Mashawn Gordon, a kick returner  for Ridgewater College had a 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown among his two returns for the Warriors.  Gordon's outstanding play help spark Ridgewater in their 39-36 victory over Minnesota West on Saturday. He also led his team in receiving with four catches and 81 total yards and a touchdown.    Gordon's longest catch was a 35-yard haul from Warrior quarterback Carl Borleis.     Ridgewater will travel to Rochester Community & Technical College for a 1:30pm kickoff on Saturday, October 21st.

 

Other Notable Western Division Performances: 

Malik Gaillard, quarterback for North Dakota State College of Science, threw for 312 yards and rushed for 70 more, in a 42-30 Wildcat loss to Northland CTC on Saturday. His favorite target was Kyle Fowlkes, who had 8 catches and three touchdowns. 

In Minnesota West's  39-36 loss to Ridgewater, Caleb Tinklenberg had 9 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. He also booted three extra points and a field goal for the Bluejays.

Ridgewater kicker Broady Flach hit a 34-yard field goal and was a perfect 4-of-4 on PAT's in the Warriors 39-36 win over Minnesota West. 

Dakota College-Bottineau running back DeRante Sanders had 73 yards on 10 rushes and 3 touchdowns against M State, while Jacks teammate Isaiah Dennis-McLean had a 38 yards interception return for a touchdown. 

M State kicker  Jordan Foss hit a 29 yard field goal and fellow Spartan Mykh'ael Chavis rushed for 92 yards against Dakota College-Bottineau.
