MCAC Golf Teams compete in Fall Regional

Rochester, Mn-

Unusually warm fall temperatures were enjoyed by several Minnesota College Athletic Conference golf teams as they competed in the 2017 Region XIII District golf championships, hosted by The Quarry at Giant's Ridge in Biswabik, Minnesota.  After Day 1, three of the top four teams are separated by only a handful of strokes and several individuals turned in strong opening performances. 

M State turned in the top MCAC scorecard, posting a 319 team score.  Hunter Moen had a team-best 76 for M State, while Mason Landborg shot a 78 to pace the Spartans.  Nick Kress (81), Blake Bloedorn (84) and Jordan Kern (87) round out the top five for coach Jason Retzlaff's squad. 

Mesabi Range College enjoyed a pair of strong performers in the opening round as well, with Nick Moe turning in a 76 and fellow Norseman John Sjoberg carding a 77.  The next three scores of teammates Jon Rue (83), Zach Rinne (84) and Beau Halttunen (98) added up to a 320 round for Mesabi Range, and skipper, Brad Scott. 

Rochester CTC fielded four golfers in the event, led by Nick Paulsen with an 80,while Yellowjacket teammate Ethan Otterbein came in with a 82 after Day 1.  Austin Miller fired a 109 for Rochester and Will Forberg had 112. 

In addition to the three Minnesota College Athletic Conference programs competing, Southwest (WI) Technical College is a part of the NJCAA tournament action as well, and leads the way with a team score of 316.  Mitch Steiner is their top performer with a 77, followed by teammates Drew Zimmerman (78), Rollin Peterson (80), Trey Stendalen (81) and Matt Amorose (82).
