RCTC takes on Mn West in Women's Hoops

A strong rebounding effort helped the Rochester Community and Technical College women's basketball team to an 83-70 win over Minnesota West (Worthington) on Saturday.

The win concluded the Yellowjackets' regular season. They are 9-3 in the MCAC and 16-10 overall.

RCTC finished second in the MCAC Southern Division. That gave it the No. 2 seed in the Region 13A tournament which begins next Saturday at Anoka-Ramsey. RCTC plays No. 3 seed Minnesota State (Fergus Falls) in the first round at 8 p.m.

Reed Klunder and Nautika Kotero each had 16 points for the Yellowjackets. Klunder added four assists and hit four 3-pointers. Kotero had six assists and four steals.

Nathalie Ratliff added 15 points and five assists, Jenna Svoboda 15 points and six rebounds, Victoria Ashland 12 points, and Paige Overgaard 10 rebounds.

RCTC outrebounded Minnesota West 33-27. Minnesota West had been averaging 50 rebounds per game. RCTC also forced 22 turnovers.

The Yellowjackets, who won for the sixth straight time, shot 53 percent from the field and a blistering 50 percent (8-of-16) from 3-point range.

"it was a hard-fought game," RCTC coach Steve Hucke said. "Our defense was excellent in the second half. We created a lot of offense and nice layups from our defense. It was a good way to end the (regular) season."
