Rainy River and Minnesota West Student-Athletes Honored

As women's basketball teams dig into the heart of the Divisional schedules around the Minnesota College Athletic Conference, a pair of student-athletes went above and beyond helping their teams climb the standings ladder.  For their outstanding efforts, Daeja Monroe (Rainy River) and Emily Haubrich (Minnesota West) have been named Player-of-the-Week in their respective MCAC Divisions for the week ending January 20.

Daeja Monroe helped lead Rainy River Community College to a pair of key MCAC Northern Division wins over the past week, including a  victory over third-ranked Northland CTC and a school-record performance against Itasca Community College.

Monroe shot 23-for-36 over the two contests and made six three-pointers. She was almost perfect from the charity stripe (16-of-17) for a two-game total of 69 points.  Monroe also chipped in eight rebounds and five steals between the two victories. With 45 points against Itasca, Monroe set a new school-record for points-scored in a contest at Rainy River.       

Monroe and Rainy River will face Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College and Central Lakes College in MCAC Northern Division action this week.

The Minnesota West Lady Jays sit atop the Southern Division women's basketball standings and the play of sophomore guard Emily Haubrich is a big factor in their success.          

In a pair of MCAC South victories this week, Haubrich factored into more than 33 points in each contest by setting up teammates and scoring some buckets herself.  The unselfish guard averaged over six assists per game and chipped in 20.5 points from the floor over the week.  The Carroll, Iowa product also averaged four rebounds and three steals per game. 

The Lady Jays are 4-0 in the MCAC Southern Division and sit 13-4 overall.  Minnesota West will take on Anoka-Ramsey and St. Cloud Technical & Community College this week in MCAC action.
