Women's Basketball Teams Head into Crossover Play

Men's and women's basketball teams from around the Minnesota College Athletic Conference head into the first weekend of Conference action, as the 2018 MCAC Crossover contests will occur Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1.  Teams from the Southern and Northern Division will compete against each other Friday and Saturday as a part of their preparations for Divisional play in December and January.   MCAC games played over the next two weekends between Conference teams will count in their regular season standings only. 

In women's hoops, Northern Division squads Rainy River Community College and Hibbing Community College are both off a strong start in 2018-19, with the Voyageurs turning in a 5-0 record so far and the Cardinals checking in at 4-0 to date.  RRCC standout Dajea Monroe is currently second in the country in points-per game; the sophomore from Houston, Texas is averaging 33.8 a contest.  Anoka-Ramsey Community College guard Mikayla Homola (So., Blaine, MN) has also been on a scoring streak to start the season at 26.8 points per game and is a threat defensively; Homola is tied for second in the NJCAA nationally in steals, averaging 5.5 per game.   The Golden Rams are 4-2 on the year, with several games against NJCAA Division I and II opponents. 

Individually, Rochester Community & Technical College student-athlete Alyssa Whitson is second in the country in field goal percentage, finding success from the floor 70.4% of the time.  Taylor Rose of Ridgewater College is scoring 29.5 points a game for the Warriors.  On the boards, SCTCC Cyclone Kiara Coops leads the league in rebounding at 12.5 a game, with Northland's Brooke Heggie and Itasca's Emily Franz grabbing 12.2 and 12.0 rebounds a contest as well.
